About the site
The purpose of this site is to gather the Smashing Pumpkins fans' Smashing Pumpkins related tattoos here for everyone to
view. Some history:
One night I was surfing the net and by accident I found the website of a person called Adam Bosse. I noticed that there was a page dedicated to Smashing Pumpkins related skin art, so I told my friend Ville (now in this gallery) about it and that he should send the webmaster a photo of his SP tattoo. He did, but it was never added.
A while later I decided to set up my own tattoo page, one that would be regularly updated and maintained. The very first version of Rat-Tat-Tattoos (then nameless) was a part of my personal site, featuring two tattoos, Angie and Luís'. (Angie has since become kind of a godmother for Rat-Tat-Tattoos and was a huge help especially in the very beginning.)
The tattoo page didn't become its own independent site until late July 2001. I held a name contest on the O-board and got many suggestions from fellow users. Many of them were great but somehow Rat-Tat-Tattoos stood out. It was suggested by Ramona a.k.a. lovevigilante and even though she thought it was a silly name, I loved it. It's a name that the fans will immediately associate with the Smashing Pumpkins, even when the band's name is not mentioned.
The site was first hosted at Envy.nu, then Violentserene.net (the host and the domain mysteriously disappeared after about a month), then Envy.nu again and now Vertigen.net, where I've been since January 2002 and I'm planning to stay.
And for the record, I have no tattoos myself. Yeah, I know. Quite strange for someone maintaining a site like this. ;) I just haven't found the perfect design yet. However, I doubt I will ever have the courage to ink myself as a tribute to the Pumpkins, so that's why I salute those who do. (In fact I am tattooed now and have even caught myself considering a Pumpkins tribute tattoo... We'll see what happens.)
